2024 Vigil

Tradition is defined as a long-established custom or belief that has been passed on from one generation to another.

The initial Vigil was held in 1989 when retired Commanding Officer Capt. Diane Keene was looking for a way to physically involve the young Cadets in Remembrance Day.

This year marks the 35th year of the watchful tribute on the eve of Remembrance Day, heads bowed over upturned rifles, the Cadets will guard the Orillia cenotaph from Sunday November 10 evening through the night, until the end of the official ceremony the following morning.

Even through covid, virtual guards were held around the clock through the evening.

We are proud of our young Cadets who brave the rain, snow, cold and heat every year.

At the rising sun and at its going down; we remember them.

About Us

Orillia's 99 Lynx Air Cadets Squadron is looking for young people who want to do something different. If you are 12 or more years old, this might be for you. Uniforms and training are supplied free, and activities including gliding, summer courses, camping weekends, and more are usually free as well.

As you learn, you advance. Ranks are based on those of Canada's Air Force, and the program is run jointly by the Department of National Defence and the Air Cadet League of Canada.

The aims are leadership, citizenship, fitness, and an interest in Canada's aviation heritage and industry. If you have what it takes, you can train to be a glider or a power pilot, and earn your wings at no cost to you.

This is not a recruiting organization and there is no obligation to join the military.
